Pleas Help Me My Friends Are My Only Subscribers
Jul 14, 2008 Blogging Tips, Headline, RSS Tips
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I see lots of new bloggers complaint this now day. But just complaining won’t solve your problem you really need to do something. Because Subscribers are the life blood of a successful blog, the more life blood you have the healthier your blog will be.
So here are few strategies that you can implement today and start getting more blog subscriber right away.
But before you start working on these strategies you need to have solid contents under your belt which your reader would like to subscribe. Without great contents all the strategies discussed in this post are useless and won’t help you in any manner. So if you are a new blogger you might want to read how to build a successful blog 1st which will help you implement rest of this article.
Publish Full Feed:
This is no big secret that reader only subscribes to blogs they like or finds user friendly. So don’t disappoint them with partial feed. I know you want to make money with your blog, and for that you need people to visit to your blog so you can get more ad impressions and perhaps an ad click or two. But trust me if your subscriber find what you write compelling they will visit your site to read the comments or post a comment. So attract your subscriber with good content don’t try to drag them with partial feed. They might tolerate meanness for a while but sooner or later they will hit the unsubscribe link and you will be one subscriber less.
Highlight Your Rss Feed:
People wont subscribe to your Rss feed unless they see it. Feature your RSS feed button in most prominent place on your blog. On every single page of Bloggers Lab you will see sidebar starts of with RSS and Email subscription. If my visitor is familiar with RSS feed he/se can’t help but notice the large standard RSS button on header. Even if he doesn’t know what is RSS Feed the bright orange button would naturally draw his attention.
The fewer steps the batter:
After making your subscriptions option an important component of your blog layout. The next most important process is decreasing the hassle of your potential subscriber by reducing the steps and the data it takes to complete the subscription. So your reader won’t abandon the subscription or get distracted by something else.
The reduction in steps and hassle free subscription is one of the reasons why many blog publishers love Feedburner for RSS subscription.
Dedicated Subscribe Page/Post:
This is a single page/post on your blog listing all the different options to subscribe to your blog feed. Include options like Add to Technorati Favorite, Email Subscription, or feed in RSS reader or Aggregators.
Ask for Subscription:
This is where many blog publishers are letting the subscriptions chance slide away. You need to ask your reader if you want them to subscribe to your feed. A little closing line like “if your like this post consider subscribing to our Blog feed” or “if you like what you read subscribe to our Blog Feed for future updates.” Will be enough to encourage your reader to subscribe to your blog feed.
Offer Free Goodies:
This is one strategy that works 101%. Give your reader some extra incentives to subscribe to your blog feed. It can be any thing free ebooks or entrecard credit or whatever comes in your mind. Another great way to increase your subscriber count is holding a contest on your blog,
What Would Seth Godin Do
What Would Seth Godin do is a charming wordpress plugin which adds neat box like “If you are new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS Feed Thanks for visiting “
This box appears specifically for those who visiting you’re your blog for 1st time. So that regular visitors aren’t burdened by the message.

Yeah, right, highlighting your RSS Feed is very important. A good placement button gets the attention of the readers.
The free goodies too is a very effective technique to offer with. That entrecard credits offer is a very good idea inline with free ebooks you want to give.

I agree; few things are more irritating than partial feeds. Upon discovering a partial feed for a site I enjoy, I immediately unsubscribe and vow not to return to the site. It’s too greedy for my taste.

When I first started blogging and reading other blogs, I didn’t know what an RSS feed was and I was hesitant to subscribe via e-mail. I think a great way to communicate/share your feed with readers is not only proper placement, but an explanation (however short) of what an RSS feed is.
