Ever wonder why some people stick to one blog, why you always see them post their response as soon as the author of that blog hit that cute *Publish Button* ?, or why those avid reader refresh their RSS reader as the cock-crow for updates from their favorite blog?

I am not sure about you but I some time wonder why my favorite writer ** have those great peoples gathering on her blog, Why get 3 figure diggs and stumbles every time he post a new blog? Or why blog get tons of comments every time? Or why great bloggers like and are so successful, Whenever I ask all this questions to my self I always get only one answer, *Because their readers Love their blogs*

So when blog readers fall in love with your blog? Well scroll down to know :

Your Blog is a joy ride for your reader:
You make it easy for them to read what you are writing, you post is no longer then it should be, you write in a language that a dumb like me can understand it (even if my first language is not English).

You Welcome comments:
You never forget things that matter, but still you leave space for me to join the conversation, you listen what I say, and take the time to respond to it. You take constructive criticism well, you argue with what has been said, not with who said it

You still believe your readers are human:
Most of us as bloggers forget it from time to time. But you still remember that those who interact with your words are made meat and bones- just like you.

People come to your blog searching for information or an answer to a question, or may seek education, they could be looking for company or even entertainment You Keep the needs of your readers in mind and strive to fulfill them.

You give what you expect from me:
You comment on blog post you find interesting, you make it a point to visit your commentor’s blog, and share your thoughts and view about their blog. you link out generously so you reader get in-depth information of subject you are writing about. You give credit where it’s due, you’re clear about the source of your arguments, facts, links and photographs.

Well friends these are the quality you reader look for before subscribing to your blog, these are the characteristics of engaging blog, many great blogger around the blogshare are admired because of this quality,

Sunil – Thanks for the mention. I’m humbled by your kindness. I agree with you that writing is an art and it involves emotions and clarity of a writer as the riding board that appeals to his or her readers. Your suggestions are right on the money for one to figure out why Barbara gets tons of comments when she writes.

I never really thought about readers whose first language is not English. I guess I should think about that next time I see a grammar error. They are easy enough to overlook when you know where the author is coming from.

    Thanks for the insight.

Like most readers I have my biases. I like my thinking to be challenged. I like posts of value. I prefer a shorter over a longer post. I enjoy it when comments are reciprocated. I dislike list posts and cute posts that are more written for the social media.

    Hi Sunil,

Thank you so much for the link love. I truly appreciate it.

You’ve hit the nail on the head with all of your points, especially remembering our readers are human and many don’t have English as a first language. Reciprocating comments is very important. It can be time consuming, however, just as in life, other people’s opinions should not be ignored.

Hi Sunil – Great points. Especially the one about writing so folk understand. A lot of people don’t and sometimes I’ve got to the end of a blog post and I haven’t got a clue what it was meant to be about.

Congratulations on being NBOTW on Barbara’s blog.

You said it right Suni. I am one of those readers and I like the post that will caught my attention. Sometimes I focus on the title. I know most readers are like me. We like interesting, helpful, and exciting post.

    Hello Sunil,
My Father (from Scotland – spoke British English) worked with deaf children in his early work years and his way of explaining in words and sign really painted a whole picture of what was being conveyed. I think I carry this principle over into my writing and over explain. This was a good reminder for me to lighten up a bit. Barbara’s Blog is certainly welcoming and helpful aren’t we all lucky to have found it and been acknowledged by her presence?

Congratulation on being NBOTW this week
I appreciate your post for today and will now wander about your site for a good joy ride. Thank you.

    Hi Sunil,

Wow, thanks for the mention :) . This is a great post, because a lot of bloggers just write articles without making the effort to connect to the readers. People need to feel connected to the person who wrote the article. These are some great ways for a blogger to make the reader feel connected.

Oh, and congrats on being Barbara’s New Blog of the Week!

Those are some fantastic tips! I can really relate to the “remember that readers are human” thing, as I forget about that frequently. This is the first post I’ve read on this blog and I’m already loving it. Good job.

  • Sunil (author) said:

@Shilpan you deserve that love mate, your blog is really a joy ride for me (and don’t know how many other)

@Chase Marchs half of the blogsphere is crowded by people like me(who’s first language isn’t English) and we cant afford to loose them :)

@ Kouji i love to reciprocating, i never miss an opportunity, visit my commentators, I have visit your blog on number of time, but never express my views on your poems,i don’t want to spoil your readers mood with my silly comments just because i want to return the favor you did by commenting on my blog, (i am not much in poems and poetry and Haiku is way to high for me),

@Tom like you i like short post but i don’t restrict my self from reading 1000 or 1500 word long post as long as there is value for my time.

@Barbara I have seen number of blog that write exclusively for Google bot and other search spider, without caring much about the people who actually read their blog. writing for spider is fine. but why take all this trouble if you cant convey your message to whom (human) you writing all this.

  • Sunil (author) said:

    @WD provoked?

@Cath this happen to me some times when i read AL at7P, not because he write in a language that i dont understand, but because there is always a deeper meaning in his post (which makes me read more then couple of time to digest)

Hi Jerry we all read what interest us, but as a blogger it is our duty to catch our readers attention.

@Patricias thanks for sharing your fathers story with us, i must say you father have master the art of communicating. its true signs and pictures are great way to convey your message without speaking a word,

@Al making people feel they are part of your blog is very important, and you have mastered that quality i see you can make your reade cry with you when you are sad, or make them celebrate them with you when there is good news,

Hi Lance Welcome to Blogger’s Lab
welcoming comment have been biggest traffic driver for me. it has helped me to connect with people i wouldn’t meet otherwise

Hi Justin glad you like what i said hope to see you often on Blogger’s Lab :)

    Hey Sunil

Good stuff you outline here. I think the foremost importance of all is the honest and human way we should approach our readers either through responding to their comments and reciprocating their visits.

Beside, nothing is more rewarding to the commenter than to know that he/she is not talking to the blog but rather the blogger.

By the way, did I day that I fell in love with your post title already…?

What do I look for in a blog for me to love it?

Relatively short posts that stick to one idea, are written in a way that’s easy to digest the words (plain language) and make me think or laugh (or ideally both).

    Cheers,
    Alex

I saw you at Problogger and I think you are really learning a lot from him, just like me.

Anyway, a great reason to make me love a blog is when it motivates to do to better. One thing that I really agree with your post is treat readers like human. It is unfortunate that there are some bloggers who are blogging for search engines and maximizing the keywords, but forgetting that the end users are still human like him.

  • krissy knox said:

For me to fall in love with a blog it must be of a subject I am very interested in. One would do well to fill a niche someone has not already covered — he would get a lot of readers that way. Another option for a blogger would be to write a blog on a niche that is already covered, but do it in a spectacular way!

Which leads me to my second point. For me to love a blog, it must be very well written. It also must contain great content.

I also like a blog that is interactive. This is hard to accomplish, and how to do it can’t always just be conveyed to the blogger (I mean it would be hard for me to tell you how YOU should personally do it with YOUR own blog) — making a blog interactive is something each blogger must figure out how to do on his/her own blog — in his/ her own style and way. Having an interactive blog does draw readers, bc an interactive blog is an interesting blog, keeps readers at your blog, and allows readers to have some ownership in the blog.

Sometimes I want a blog that is lots of fun. I just want a break from life. Sometimes I want a blog that is very spiritual (Catholic) or motivational. Sometimes I want a blog that is very intellectually stimulating. Sometimes I want a blog that has personal stories. Sometimes I want a blog that is informative — that will give me USEFUL information — tell me how I can do something… I like a blog with lists. Any kind of blog that will help me…

thanks for the insightful post and a great blog!

I find your first two points to be very important. They are exactly what I look for in a blog. If a blog isn’t easy to read, and if I leave comments and they are deleted or take forever to get approved, I lose interest. Also I like blogs (and any site I visit) to be easy to navigate.

really like the idea of comment luv since it is a way to return the web back to being a collaboratives place. I think when you first put up your site you are excited and feel like your content will take over the world then you quickly realize that the only way to keep up there in search rankings is by building relationships with other webmasters.
