How to Encourage Your RSS Subscriber to Visit your Blog
Jul 25, 2008 Blogging Tips, RSS Tips
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
If you have read my pervious post Double your RSS Subscriber in 24 hours, then you probably know how to build your subscriber base in short time. But if your dream is “Making Money Online” like my dear friend Shanker Bakshi then you have created another problem for your self. This might shock you but its true, it becomes harder and harder to monetize your blog with growing feed subscriber count. Having 5 figures feed subscriber count is what every blog author always dreams about, your RSS subscriber count represents loyal reader base, and seeing that number grow day by day is a good representation of your real growth. However because many subscriber wont visit your blog every day making money with your RSS subscriber is very limited. Though you can Monetize your RSS feed with FeedBurner Ad Network and Text Link Ad Feed Advertising, but the best way would be to encourage them to visit your blog, if you really want to make big money with your blog. And in this article we will discus different ways to make your subscriber visit your blog.
Link To Old Post Generously:
This is a great way to encourage your subscriber to visit your blog, whenever possible try to find an old that are related to your current topic and link to it. This deep linking stretagy will drag your subscriber to your blog, and it will help your new readers discover articles they may have missed, it also helps search engine find your old article and.
Switch on the FeedBurner FeedFlare:
Feedburner’s FeedFlare feature lets your add comments count at the end of each post, which lets your subscriber know hominy comments your post have generated so far. Comments can’t be read from the post RSS, unless your reader have subscribed to comment RSS, so your subscriber must visit your blog in order to read the comments, if your reader is interested in the post, chances are he/she will click on the comment links to see what other reader have to say about your post (and if all go well they might join the conversation too), If Feedflare showing zero comment on all your blog post wont help you much, you will need to encourage comments on your blog if you want FeedFlare to show some number on your post feed. That’s why every Blogging Guru insists for Creating An Engaging Community Around Your Blog.
Embed Video in your post.
Embedded video can not be played in RSS reader or email client. If your subscribers want to view the video thet will need to visit your blog, but don’t forget to add good description on what the video is all about it will encourage more reader to visit your blog, and they want see complete blank page with just one cute title.
These three simple tweaks will reasonably increase your Feedburner Reach, another trick is manually adding related entry at the end of your new post, it will support your deep linking, and it provides your subscriber few more reason to visit your blog for more information.
So that was my little secrete for increasing feed reach, how do you encourage your subscriber to visit your blog? Let me know in comments bellow

Hi Sunil,
I can personally confirm regarding the embedded video. I had a post a couple weeks back that had a YouTube video, and an email subscriber told me that my post didn’t make sense. I learned my lesson - embedded videos are not always visible to subscribers.
I didn’t add two and two together until your article - the embedded video is a good way to get people to visit the website. I think subscribers might get annoyed if it’s overdone. I’m subscribed to Slashfilm, a blog that does this a lot, and I’ve tended to just skip those posts lately. Give me a good description of the video and why I should watch it, and I’ll be more likely to go to the web site. Great tips Sunil!

I always felt that feeds would reduce direct blog visits and you confirmed my doubts. However, I like the idea of video. That seems like a good idea. As for John Chow, he can keep his opinions to himself. Frankly, I dont know if there is any way to get around this system that seems like a double edged sword. Really curious to know what others report also. Once again, great post Sunil

Thanks Sunil for another great post - Yes Embed videos in Rss are great traffic source. But yes then everything has its limitation - how many in a week you think is good for this purpose is a matter of your own calculations and analysis.

I burn my feeds with Blogger and view them on a Google RSS Reader. I have never had a problem viewing embedded videos. I have one playing right now that is hilarous. I have no experience with Feedburner and I am a little afraid of it…don’t know why. Maybe you cannot view videos if you’ve burned a feed with Feedburner. Could this be the reason? I wish someone would explain Feedburner to me so I would not be so skeptical. I subscribe to this blog and enjoy it. Can anyone tell me how Feedburner would help me? Please! http://contentinacottage.blogspot.com

@Content in a Cottage If you’re interested in tracking how many people have subscribe to your site’s RSS feed you’ll need to burn it through FeedBurner
While many blog reader use Google reader to subscribe to RSS feeds , there are thousands or say millions of reader who use other services such as newsgator, pageflakes and netvibes. These readers will need to copy paste your feed url in their feed reader. Which many reader won’t do and you will loose one loyal follower.
With feedburner you can have your cake and eat it too. Feedburner’s ability to server every platform increases your chances getting more subscribers. And being a Google alias feedburner is as safe as Gmail.
