Do You Think Daniel Scocco of Daily Blog Tips is Losing His Authority and Popularity

Daniel Scocco Daily Blog Tips

The basic idea behind John Chow Dot Com was to teach new aspiring bloggers how to make money with their blogs. And the tag line of John’s blog “I Make Money Online Telling People How I Make Money Online” was well justified in initial years of operation. But now it looks like John Chow has forgot what his tag line stands for. He still earns handsome five figures with his blog. But he no more tells his reader how he makes it. And something similar is happening on Daily Blog Tips Dot Com now days.

He Is Not Doing What He Does Best:

An a-list blogger who is know for his brilliance and authority in blogging community, seems to have forgot why he is getting all this attention and affection from thousands of people all around the cyber space. Or at least that’s what DBT’s recent updates suggest. A favorite blog of millions of reader looking for blogging advice and marketing tips, have transformed it self into a place for review and news of web tools and services.

So what is the reason behind this change in Daniel Sococco’s blog post style and quality?

Is It Writer’s Block?

I believe you all are very much familiar with this nasty term “writer block”. And you must have read many posts on writer’s block lately so there is no point in rehearsing it here. But is you are struggling with it then there are many foolproof strategies to deal with writer block. But if your blog archive is as big as Daily Blog Tips then its even easier for you to beat the bugger, then a relatively small blogs like this one.

Recycle Your Blog: This tactic is particularly useful and effective for blogs which have produced boatload of content. That have created significant buzz in blogsphere. All you have to do is select bunch of evergreen articles from your archive, rewrite it with new aspect add few new points and publish it as series of post.

The best example of this strategy’s success and effectiveness is , Darren’s 31days to Building a Better Blog challenge is recycled version of his 31 old posts, with spice of new improvement in blog sphere and his signature style (see the world from other end).

Invite Guest Blogger: Its not hard to find few people to write for an a-list blogger like Daniel , When you ranked in top 10 blogger in your niches, usually people buzz you all the time with their best works for one chance to address your reader.

Hire writer: If you think guest post from different people will effect your blogs quality and reputation, then paid writer is best option for you. Find couple of freelance writer who will take care of your writing duty for few bucks.

Round Up Post (Best Of Your Blog): An a-list blogger with more then thousand post under his belt have many reason to do periodic roundup styles of post. And I believe every blogger must do it time to time. Its fast and easy to produce, it gives quick flashback of your work to your old readers (it also help your new readers find your best work). And the SEO benefits of Internal Linking is added bonus.

There is great deal of ideas and strategies like those above to conquer the writer block, But to believe a blogger like Daniel Scocco don’t know it or have lack of inspiration or creativity is height of stupidity (though the evidence so far suggests he doesn’t). A guy who is considered as a great thinker of blogging community couldn’t possibly be short of idea or inspirations for new blog post.

So is it Success Overload Then?

Success of any project Is like bungee jumping, Initial thrill is full with lots of ups and downs but it eventually lefts you hanging in between. And that’s what seems to be happening with our beloved entrepreneur blogger, success of his 1st venture inspired him to start new projects one after another (Daily Blog Tips, Daily Bits, and Daily Writing Tips ) but this series of new projects left him clueless about his goal. Result, his Flagship blog is compromised for success of his other blogs and projects, DBT is not getting enough care and attention from his editor.

What ever is the reason behind this sudden change in Daniel Scocco’s posting style and quality. It is surely affecting DBTs popularity and authority. It use to be in technorati’s top 20 authority blogs list last year , but as of today it stands at 226 ,Not even in to 100. And its not only authority that’s dropping day by day. DBT seems to loosing it RSS Subscribers as well. Once it use to have nearly 35k subscriber, but to days its RSS counter shows 21k odd, that’s more 33% drop in subscribers since last few months.

Update From Daniel:

I just wanted to point out that you got your numbers wrong though. The most blatant one is the number of RSS readers. As of December 2008 we had around 15,000 RSS readers, and today we have 21,000, which is the highest we ever had. We never had 35,000, you must be confused with some other blog.

You can verify this with the feed analysis tool: http://www.blogperfume.com/feed-analysis/index.php?months=24&uri=http%3A%2F%2Ffeeds2.feedburner.com%2FDailyBlogTips

If things continue to be how it is now day on DBT, i am afraid to say the day is not to far in future when people refer to Daniel Scocco as ex-professional blogger.

    Hi there,

I appreciate the fact that you consider my blog to be an authority in its niche.

As for it losing such authority or popularity, well, every one is entitled to an opinion.

From January of 2009 to May of 2009 we gained 6,000 new RSS subscribers, representing an increase of 40%.

I hope you can update your post with the real numbers.

    Thanks!

Hello Daniel and welcome to Blogger’s lab.

Thanks for visiting my post and sharing first hand information about your RSS stats.

I am really sorry for showing wrong stats, i hope you and my readers will forgive for this (i have changed the stats with the one you provided). As you all ready said i must have been confused with some other blogger’s stats. thanks for pointing it.

Now that the feed stat is sorted could you pleas share some more insight about your Technorati rank and other things i said in my post.

  • Daniel Scocco said:

    Hi Sunil,

No problems, and thanks for updating the post.

Technorati has always been very volatile (as all other rankings), so it does not worry me too much. For instance, a while ago my Alexa Rank went from 12,000 to 100,000 overnight. My traffic was stable though, so the rank meant nothing. After some months the rank went back to 12,000.

As for writer’s block, well the blog still publishes daily posts. I haven’t missed a day in 2 years (over 1,100 posts in the archives). Given that the readership and traffic are still growing every month, I believe the blog is still on the right track.

It is normal for some readers to move on once they feel they have enough knowledge of blogging.

You can’t please everyone, that is a rule.

Thanks again for the feedback though.

    Hi Daniel

Well i like the way you think about Technorati and other ranking measure. no one is perfect and you cant simply relay on them to project some ones success.

but as far as technorati is concerned its far batter then Alexa and other programs. while alexa’s algorithm works on browser data, technorati considers blog reaction (inbound links) for assigning ranks,

so if we believes technoratis stats about DBT then you are not getting as much inbound link as you use to get lately, which suggest me that other bloggers are not finding your content link worthy any more.

and about publishing daily, well thats was not my point, my concern is the type of post we use to see on DBT which is not been seen on DBT since long time, all your recent post are more like a filler post that blogger use to maintain the post consistency.

whats your take on that buddy?

  • Daniel Scocco said:

Well, I believe that is a matter of opinion.

As I mentioned before from January 2009 to May 2009 we gained 6,000 new RSS subscribers. That is over 1,000 monthly, and a 40% overall increase.

So many people still like the posts.

Wow. I’m glad I read the comment! It’s always interesting to see big bloggers talking to each other in a more casual, non-interview atmosphere. Especially in response to a direct post like this.

    Well said Dani.

Sunil. Everyone will have their own style of writing and we can’t just push them to do what we need.

Also like him, I don’t really believe those rankings at all completely. Believing our loyal readers/visitors paves the way to a great success.

    What do you think dude?

And some advice from my side. Your post have some grammatical errors. Kindly correct it to shape it further and better.

In general I still see DBT good but then as we know readers come and go. At first I used to read every post when I was a beginner but now after 1 year of blogging and testing and learning constantly i only read and comment on DBT’s post which seem new to me. In my opinion I think DBT is still a very good blog for beginners.

I guess once you are making the big bucks, does it really matter if you teach people to how to make money? Maybe in the beginning it was true, that he really wanted to make money by teaching people to make money.

Now it’s just more on promoting products and maybe a bit of teaching people how to make money online.

I have been blogging for only three months now, but already knew how to monetize my blog and so on. I know feel like I already know a lot of thing about blogging that I sometimes skip posts untill I find a blog that really help people about monetize their blog in a different way. I mean, I haven’t seen any concrete way to make money online yet, the most concrete way recquire a lot of time, and unless you have an outstanding idea, you’re not going to make a decent income online. I’m working on offering my readers the most concrete way about making profit from blogging.

Daniel kind of put himself in a corner using the word, “Daily,” in his domain.
It’s obvious he knows his business, but he raised the bar on himself and his content quality and output with that Daily tag.
There are obvious ways to get around it and, like he said, he hasn’t missed a day, but I wonder if that’s sustainable 5 years down the road without eventually having to outsource authorship.

Inviting a guest blogger is in my opinion the best option you have listed. This will be beneficial to both yourself and your guest and you receive a free post and they receive links inbound links from your site.
