Are you Slow Poisoning Your Blog?
Mistakes are a part of being human, but if you don’t learn from your mistake and keep repeating it you will end up looking stupid and arrogant, and today we are going to discuss those mistakes may kill your blog like a slow poison, and how to avoid it.
Irregular posting: If you go to a blog and the last update was two months ago, you know the blog isn’t being updated. And while it might contain tons of useful stuff from the past, there’s no reason to subscribe or keep coming back if you don’t think new posts are coming out regularly, I can personally confirm that because I have experienced it lately when I was away from this blog for almost 3 months, which cost me more than 80% of my subscribers and nearly same percent of daily page view.
Too many posts but very few useful: People expect useful and genuine information from you, that’s why they have come to your blog. But your 5 most recent posts are all updates about competitions or a new product you’re selling or a contest on another blog instead of something useful, do you think they will stay longer and dig through 10 non-useful posts just to find one useful post. Its good idea to make some money selling affiliate product weekly roundup of what’s happening in blogspher, but give your reader their daily dose of useful information too.
Novel type unscannable post: I have dedicated post about Scannable content so I won’t bore you again with same tips, but its highly important for your post to make it scannable. In this fast and busy world people want everything instantly, this same applies to information and news too, morel of the story , craft your post in a manner that your reader can scan it for points of their interest if they can find it within a minute they arrived on your blog you earned one more subscriber.
Every time trying to Sell something: I have subscribed to many really good blogs with lots of useful information, with excellent ambiance and user friendly layout, but what made me unsubscribe was their attempt to sell something every time like in every post, along with their sidebars and headers. , there is nothing wrong in it if you do paid review or do a book review with Amazon affiliate there’s nothing wrong with that from time to time. But in every post?
Insisting subscription: Don’t force the subscription on the reader, it’s too annoying. Let them review your site first, and then decide for themselves if they want to subscribe, a friendly reminder at the end of post or a subscription widget on top of your sidebar is ok, but hammering them with pop-up subscription banner is really frustrating, don’t be so desperate to see your subscriber count rise like Zimbabwe’s Inflation . Concentrate on building reader base; write unique and useful post regularly and your subscriber count will increase automatically.
Not Replying To Any Comments: You try many strategies and plugins to make your reader comment, what good would it do if your readers or commentators are left talking to themselves? Normally, they would expect to hear your point of view especially when they ask a question in the comment. Interacting with your readers and commentators works batter then any plugin or strategy, it actually helps You Convert Your One Time Visitor into a Loyal Reader.
Not networking with other bloggers: If you’re not going to reach out to the blogging world, who is going to know you? You are not linking to other blogger because you think because it will increase their Page Rank and technocratic authority. You don’t ask questions to other blogger cause you think you too smart to do so. This is quite a childish thought actually, linking out generously, commenting and asking question on other blogs can be really helpful, If you can do this faithfully, you will realize that it batter for you then the blog you are linking to or commenting.

why u care so much about blogs, about the comments and the pots?
last time there are alot blogs arround with many updates but more inactive blogs than updated.
and in my opinion are there to many blogs with about selling blogs and digital items.
Hello Gregor welcome to Blogger’s Lab
Well mate let me make one thing clear i don’t care about every blogs. all i care is mine and the one i love to read,
I wont mind and seriously i don’t care if some one is not doing anything to promote his blog, or not posting regularly, or not linking to other board. I wont mail that blogger to stop being idiot and start posting regularly, or reply to his his reader’s comments or questions, its his blog he can do what ever he like, If i don’t like what he is doing i will simply stop visiting his blog and unsubscribe to it (if i have subscribed to it in 1st place)
That’s what your reader does when you don’t take good care of your blog, keep it clean from spams, update regularly.
And about blogs selling digital items. well buddy i am talking about general blog who try to make money by selling affiliate stuffs (3rd party products)by pretending to review it or sharing their own experience of using that product and services even though they never used it.
if your blog is e-com blog or a zencart then everything above does not apply to you
maybe Blogrules would be useful , before somebody post something he has to read the blog rules and accept them. And Spams and useless post would be delete. In the last time aren’t many useful posts arround as u said….
Well Zhen is right, blog rulz might be very usefull
but rules can’t be all , the users need to improve their wiritng skills , how funny is sounds they should learn to write useful comments. they must not be long but what they write is important not just blablabla.
Helpful advice. I am taking the advertising suggestion to heart. I am a newbie, and I am spending my efforts on providing good information that readers will enjoy or learn something. I have a very clean blog totally free of advertising. It seems to me the best thing is to build audience with quality writing and slowly layer in a modest amount of advertising.
the beheaving isn’t that good in these days , alot of spams and so are arround. so 1 useful post is more worth than 10 spam post or with useless stuff. the post must be not so long but useful or informative. long post should be wrotten atractive that the user dont lose the interest.
You make some good points. My biggest turn off are blogs that try to sell me some product and lie to do so.
I’m all of 110% certain that they’ve even seen the product they are advertising, let alone used it. I’m sure there are exceptions, but I find people recommending this or that and when I start looking for reviews online from other people they’re all the complete opposite.
the spammers are a big problem but another problem in my opionion are the to long post from the post starter, the user are getting bored while they see to long post and dont read all or dont read it clear. so no all so long post but informative should be the post of the starter.
ye like Partyfan said , the users are getting tired from long post and then they dont read them right or overfly them just and dont see the important informations the posts gives. thats why i think too short but informative posts are more useful and i like them bymyself more.
Learning from mistakes is probably the surest way to eventual big-time success.
One of the first things I look for when visiting a blog for the first time is regular/recent posting. If the blog owner isn’t committed to it, I’m not going to be either.
These are very good suggestions. I hope other bloggers are listening. If you must take time off from your blog you CAN retain most of your readers if you have built a strong community. You can see proof of that by visiting DerekSemmlerdotcom.
Bloggers tend to go to one extreme or the other: either NO monetization for far too long OR – as the comments here attest – far too much selling. Most blogs can be tastefully monetized. I offer tips on that in my posts on affiliate programs. I shared the link to that series in this comment so bloggers can easily locate it.
but when user only ant to read short posts i think they are wrong in blogs like this one. ofcourse are shorter post are sometimes better but most times is the long and more informative post better or more understandable than an short one so the user should have the time to read an post clearly.
Sometimes are short post are useful but sometimes its a MUST to have long post. why? that every detail and every information comes to the right position and the read understand what you(the writter)want to tell the reader. so you have to decide for every situation is now an short post better or an long one.
I prefer short post for my own but sometimes i need to write or better said like long post too because they can say alot more and more understandable than an short one where you need the know how to understand what the poster want from you in the post.
I normally am a post a day blog. However, I have had major technical issues for almost 2 weeks now. So my post have been irregular and I have not been able to keep up with my dropping and visiting.
So here I am today playing catch up and also stopping in just to say hello!!

Shinades last blog post..Same Season Different Colors
I always find it hard to make my long posts short as I presume that the post when read, should install itself in the mind of the reader so much that they feel to be at home with what is being shared.
I think that making a small post would not make justice as you can not share the point directly in just a single post without specifying any context or related information to the user.
Team Nirvanas last blog post..Tata Breaks The Promise-Nano Costs More Than 1 Lakh
I normaly prefer long post as reader and when i write most times too but sometimes it’s useful to make the post short that the read get all informations fast but todo this the text need to be wrriten understandable. and the users should follow some rules too like not just post nice post.
Privatschülers last blog post..Elektrotechnik – Energiesysteme an der TFH in Berlin
I respectfully disagree with one point on your post – there’s nothing wrong with advertising on every post so long as it doesn’t overwhelm the reader. After all, blogs that have adsense in them are effectively doing that already.
Best wishes, Barbara

Hello Barbara Welcome to Blogger’s Lab
I am so sorry if i failed to convey my point. i have no problem with Blog Monetization (No matter what method you use) but what i am trying to say is, don’t make every post an affiliate sales latter, or stuff affiliate link in every keyword or phrase just to earn some bucks. there are batter and sophisticated ways to earn money without annoying your readers.
Alot of opinions here!
I liked your post Sunil. One of my pet peves is when bloggers are not responsive! Nothing worse than taking the time to read, absorb and then comment… only to feel like it was all sucked into a vacuum!
As for post length, I think it’s all relative. If the demographic of your readers are writers, etc, then a long post will/should be appreaciated. If you want to hit a broader reader market, then a mix would work well.
There’s my 2cents worth
Manzs last blog post..WADRICK’S THIRTY SECOND FILM REVIEWS
like Manz said , everybody has his own opinion and his own way to write and READ post, for some are the long post are more effective in writing and reading for some user the long. some can only read short posts but can explain better in long post. some like to read long post btu only use short post bytheir self because may they can answer this way better our better anderstandable.
long posts are always better in my opinion, at the first it stop the spammers to read and make then an no sense comment and long posts can always better explain and if somebody is really interesting in an post he will read the post if it’s long or short.
im same meaning like , he si so right. long post are always and they can give you way more informations like than an short one. but the fact is that only the real interested persons will read the long post.
one site on the same meaning but other site i have an different meaning, because short posts can be very useful too and giving alot of informations when you write the pot wise and the reader understand what you write. but it’s true that long posts are at all better than could stop the spammers a bit.
Very good points in this post. I agree with the author that spamming your site with affiliate offers deters visitors. If I go to a site and there’s just banners and offers all over the page it makes me feel as if the content and site are just generic crap. Rather then someone who wants to enlighten and inform you about interesting information in their blog posts. It’s fine to have offers on your page but don’t make them excessive.
I agree – originality as well as punctuality is indeed important no matter it is blog or any other profession.

Another blog killer is Subscription pop-ups, i hate it when i see flashy subscription banner obscuring content
That’s great that you want to learn from your mistakes. That is the best thing to do! Your blog will become better, and you will become a better person! This was a very good post!

Great points here. I especially agree with the second one, too many posts but very few useful. I would rather read a blog with great articles that are short and perhaps only updated weekly, then a blog with daily updated lengthy articles that are not engaging or useful. Cheers!

Wow: That is really excellent suggestion. This blog is very useful.
Each trying to sell something i agree with many very good blog a lot of useful information has a good atmosphere and a user-friendly layout, this site is really too much useful information. Thank you for sharing.
Writing a good and meaningful blog with some interesting subjects is what it should be all about. If u also want to make a little profit, there is nothing wrong in sneaking in some affiliate links into the text, if done the right way and not to often.
It sound simple but irregular posting is a tough challenge to overcome

too many blogs about making money online nowadays, i dont blame them, its just too crowded … IMHO
Hi Sunil,
Great tips my man. Some of them I have been guilty of in the past.
Your tip about reaching out to other bloggers is definitely important.
This is a prime example, You commented on my blog: http://www.integralwebsolutions.co.za/Blog/EntryId/208/Make-your-blog-posts-go-viral-ndash-Ride-the-success-wave-of-others.aspx, thanks by the way, I in turn cam here, read this post, and found it interesting, and am commenting on your post.
The other thing about commenting on other blogs, is that now days one link is allowed to your blog. Other commenter might read your comment and then browse to your blog. Who knows what might happen from there.
All my comments are emailed to me, so that I can comment and reply. It is important to build relationships.

Hi Sunil,
Good article! Been a new blogger I’ve been trying to learn all possible things to improve my blog!
I think i’ve poisoned my blog by not connecting to bloggers! Which I plan to start right now!
Keep up the good work my friend!
Cheers
Sandeep
NIce post my friend! I agree with you…
I appreciate the fact that you often reply to the comments on your posts. I find it frustrating when the author ignores the comments, especially when the comments contain questions that I would like to get answers to.
Hab auch schon gute Erfahrung damit gemacht !!
Grüße
Tommy
Another tip I would add is to ensure that your comments section is clear of any automated spam.
I alway scan through a comments section and if I see spam then I know the author doesn’t really maintain their blog
Today everyone seems to be get engaged with social media marketing and you have mentioned all of the suspects through which people can do social media. You said very well that every one should be careful to do so and thats great
